STEADY STATE is a single-player strategy and simulation game built around factory construction, resource management, and live performance certification on procedurally generated worlds. Players act as an engineer who mines mixed ore seams, sorts materials, smelts products, and assembles production lines to meet simultaneous delivery targets measured over thirty-second intervals. The core loop centers on expanding a site that must sustain every accepted order at its exact rate without interruption while new directives arrive.
Gameplay
Production begins with nine varieties of mixed seams that yield ore requiring sorting before smelting. Mines that receive proper backfill continue delivering full output. Players choose among 91 recipes, including 54 alternate paths for 28 products, with the optimal route often determined by excess resources on hand. Power generation mixes coal, gas, solar panels paired with batteries, geothermal vents, and a later reactor, with solar output dropping each night.
Transport options scale with distance. Short runs use belts that can route underground. Longer hauls rely on rail networks with signals allowing multiple trains to share tracks. Drones handle smaller loads. A fleet of construction bots assembles placed structures while the player walks the site. Finished goods depart via rockets launched from player-built platforms. A built-in ratio calculator and live rate displays help maintain balance across active lines.
Three grading criteria apply to every certification: waste tracks unused mined material, seam support measures backfill quality, and surplus reflects how closely output matches the exact order quantity. Grades range from D to S. Higher grades accelerate unlocks but never block progress. Old orders remain active indefinitely, so new lines must integrate without starving existing production. Wrecks from prior operations provide salvage opportunities. The map expands without edges, and players can prospect new seams from any location to extend the factory outward.
Game Modes
The primary experience follows twelve Directives that progress from initial mining to full commissioning. After the twelfth Directive the standing order book continues indefinitely, presenting repeated or scaled versions of prior targets. Two Directives require no new products and instead double output on three existing lines. Free Build mode allows unrestricted construction on any generated world.
Each world starts from a seed that players can select or randomize. The map has no boundary, and prospecting tools let the factory grow across empty terrain for as long as desired. Seven tutorials introduce core systems, and twenty-three achievements track milestones such as certifications and expansions. Speed controls include pause, double speed, and quadruple speed. The game runs offline with no combat or failure states.
Progression and Systems
Unlocks arrive through certifications rather than fixed milestones. A better grade on the current set of orders shortens the wait for the next machine or recipe tier. The order book never clears completed lines, forcing continuous optimization as the site grows. Alternate recipes become relevant when ground composition or surplus materials favor one path over another. Day-night cycles affect solar output and require backup generation or storage solutions.
Blueprints can be shared through workshop integration, and mod support extends customization options. Saves persist across updates. The game emphasizes precise rate matching and long-term stability over rapid expansion or combat defense.
Is It Worth Playing?
STEADY STATE targets players who enjoy detailed factory simulation and ongoing optimization challenges without combat or time pressure. The certification system provides measurable feedback on efficiency, waste, and precision while the persistent order book creates sustained management demands. Procedural worlds and an endless post-campaign phase support extended play sessions focused on scaling and refinement.
The title remains in development with Early Access planned for Q1 2027. The full campaign through twelve Directives plus the endless book phase is already playable in the intended Early Access build, along with tutorials, achievements, workshop support, and mod tools. No user reviews exist yet. Those drawn to single-player resource and logistics games that reward careful planning and iterative improvement may find the described systems compelling once the title reaches Early Access.
