Gameplay
The core loop centers on surviving successive zombie waves that grow more dangerous the longer a run continues. After each wave, survivors recover, explore, scavenge, cook, farm, repair equipment, and expand their homestead before the next attack arrives. Base building allows construction of walls, fortifications, storage, workshops, kitchens, and utility systems including generators, solar panels, and battery storage. Nighttime presents genuine challenges because darkness limits visibility, making flashlights, batteries, fires, and powered lights essential tools rather than optional features. A powered homestead changes how players navigate and defend after sunset compared to an unlit structure.
Farming supports more than 40 crops, some suited to Michigan's outdoor climate and others requiring greenhouse protection. Game Modes
Last Acre supports solo play and cooperative sessions with friends on the same local network. In co-op, teammates can revive a fallen player to continue a high-wave run. If revival fails, the character respawns at the starting home with wave progression reset to the beginning and carried equipment lost, yet the built world remains intact. This separation of run progress from world state defines the experience across both single-player and cooperative formats. Online services are not required for the core loop, preserving access even if external servers change.
World and Progression
Each playable character maintains a separate persistent world and progression track that can continue indefinitely or reset from the main menu for a fresh start. At launch the roster includes Seo Park, Natasha, Mason, Walker, and Tactical Operator, with additional characters planned. One character's fortified farmhouse surrounded by crops and solar panels can exist alongside another's industrial site filled with generators and scavenged machinery. The large handcrafted environment features forests, abandoned towns, farms, businesses, industrial sites, and national guard outposts. Learning roads, landmarks, safe scavenging spots, and dangerous territory becomes valuable because death returns a player to the start and requires earning a way back to distant builds.
