CottageCore is an indie casual simulation game focused on freeform building and village management in a single-player experience on PC. Players shape a glade into a personalized settlement by constructing cottages, towers, and supporting structures while tending to a simulated ecosystem of animals and residents.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on terrain shaping and detailed construction. Proportions of buildings can be adjusted freely, along with material choices like stone combined with plaster, timber framing, and roof designs. Additional elements include doors, windows with customizable frames and glass, dormers, chimneys, lanterns, and ivy growth. Structures can even float on clouds if desired. Terrain tools allow for natural integration of paths, ponds, fences, walls, stairs, and bridges.
Wildlife forms a living ecosystem where deer, rabbits, sheep, and chickens follow daily routines of feeding, drinking, mating, raising offspring, and aging. Visiting animals such as foxes at night, songbirds, and frogs add variety. Four companions-a dog, cat, capybara, and swan-can be unlocked for closer interaction. Weather and time progression affect the environment, with day-night cycles, rain, snow, and seasonal shifts that freeze ponds, alter animal behavior, and pause certain activities until spring returns.
Villager trades connect through production chains. Fifteen options span roles like lumberjacks and farmers to bakers and journalists. Workplaces must be established, supplies organized, and storage managed to sustain the settlement through changing conditions. These systems encourage planning around seasonal needs without direct control over individual villager actions.
Game Modes
Two distinct modes shape the experience. God of the Glade requires ongoing care for the village across seasons. Villagers are welcomed with homes and work assignments, supplies are balanced to maintain food, water, shelter, and winter stores, and mana reserves limit additions of residents, animals, trees, and materials. Mana replenishes through happy villagers, home decorations, and priestesses each morning.
Creative mode removes those constraints. Every trade becomes available immediately, time of day and season can be set directly, and mana costs are eliminated for all elements. The same building tools and underlying simulation remain active, allowing unrestricted focus on design and layout.
Building and Customization Options
Construction emphasizes detail and flexibility. Cottages and towers support varied heights, materials, and colors, while roofs can be shaped to fit the desired aesthetic. Decorations extend to window specifics and climbing plants. The system supports both grounded settlements and elevated cloud-based designs. Undo and redo functions, combined with autosave, manual saves, and cloud support, facilitate experimentation during long sessions.
Paths, ponds, and additional structures integrate with the terrain to create cohesive environments. These elements interact with the ecosystem, providing water sources or barriers that influence animal movement and villager routines.
Is It Worth Playing?
CottageCore targets players who enjoy relaxed building combined with light simulation management. The connected trades and seasonal changes create a steady progression focused on preparation and observation rather than high-stakes challenges. Those drawn to cozy aesthetics and free creative expression will find the detailed building tools and wildlife behaviors rewarding for extended play sessions.
With a planned release in 2027 and no player reviews available yet, suitability depends on preference for single-player experiences that blend construction freedom with ecosystem management. The two modes allow switching between guided seasonal care and unrestricted creation, broadening appeal for different play styles within the simulation genre.
