Ace of Jianghu is a single-player wuxia strategy card adventure set in a grounded martial world. Players choose one of four heroes tied to distinct sects and follow branching paths that shape encounters, alliances, and conclusions across twelve possible endings. The experience centers on tactical card combat where every martial art appears as a playable card, and decisions in fights and story routes determine the outcome.
Gameplay
Combat unfolds in turns where the enemy telegraphs its intended action above its head. Players respond by blocking, evading, or striking first with cards drawn from a growing deck. Each card represents a specific technique that can be learned after victories, refined during rest periods, or discarded when it no longer fits the current build. Four sects provide unique mechanics: Shaolin builds Vajra stacks for heavier strikes the longer a stance is held; Wudang channels Flow to redirect incoming force into counterattacks; the Unorthodox Alliance accumulates Scheme while absorbing damage before unleashing it; and the Heavenly Demon Cult harnesses Inner Demon at the cost of personal resources, with certain arts drawing power from it.
Progression involves managing Qi to fuel moves or attempt breakthroughs. A successful breakthrough advances the character's realm and adds the sect's Secret Art to the deck, while failure expends all current Qi and ends the turn. Once obtained, the Secret Art can be activated with a large Qi investment for a powerful screen-filling effect. The single-developer approach yields over 160 ink-wash style cards and dozens of named characters whose interactions shift based on chosen routes.
Game Modes
The core experience is the story mode, which guides players through a narrative that begins with internal sect conflicts and expands into larger struggles among orthodox, unorthodox, and demonic forces. Three distinct routes per sect create replay paths that alter who appears and how events resolve. A roguelike deckbuilding mode called Endless Jianghu is planned for the full release but remains unavailable during Early Access. Current play focuses entirely on completing and refining the story campaign with its branching structure and multiple endings.
Story and Setting
The narrative stays grounded in human conflicts rather than supernatural ascension. Players navigate feuds, wars, and hidden influences without immortals or elixirs. Ink-wash artwork, sound design, and writing all originate from one creator with a background in wuxia novels, resulting in a consistent tone across 80 named figures and the twelve endings. Branching choices emphasize personal decisions and their ripple effects through the jianghu.
Is It Worth Playing?
Ace of Jianghu suits players who enjoy single-player tactical card games with visible enemy intent and sect-specific resource systems. The Early Access version delivers a complete story mode with four heroes, branching routes, and breakthrough mechanics ready for play. Balance adjustments and quality-of-life improvements continue based on feedback, while the planned Endless Jianghu mode will add replay-focused runs after full release. Those drawn to wuxia themes, deck management, and readable turn-based combat will find a focused experience here; others seeking multiplayer or immediate roguelike variety may prefer to wait for further updates.
