The Grand Library has 100,000 books and every one of them is on the floor. You're the new hire. Good luck.
Pick up a book, read the spine, find its shelf. Fiction is sorted by author, nonfiction by Dewey number, biographies by subject. It's slow at first. You carry a few books at a time, climb ladders and forget which aisle had the Westerns. But every book you put in the right place pays a dollar, and finishing a run of call numbers gets you a bonus and a skill star.
Skills
Shelving books earns XP, and XP turns into stars you spend on the skill tree. There are four branches. Hands makes you better at the job yourself: bigger stacks, longer reach, sharper eyes for the book you're looking for. Gathering upgrades your walking boxes, bins and carts. Machines improves the sorting belts and conveyors. Payroll is about the money: raises, store coupons and a few surprises.
Then you let the machines do it
Once the money comes in, you can buy help. Boxes grow little legs and wander around picking books off the floor. They drop them into a sorting table's hopper, the table sorts them by genre, and an overhead conveyor carries each book to its exact slot on the shelf. Carts can shelve books on their own, bins go looking for books that ended up in the wrong place, and dollies fly between floors. Set it up right and the library mostly runs itself.
