Ore Heads is an indie casual simulation game on PC centered on cooperative voxel mining and relaxed progression. Players take on the role of Square Heads working for Head Office, digging through caves filled with ore on a cozy island setting complete with day and night cycles and changing weather.
Gameplay
The core loop involves swinging a pickaxe at rocks in sprawling cave systems. Multiple players can strike the same rock to break it faster, encouraging teamwork during shifts. Richer veins appear deeper in the mines, requiring upgraded tools like sharper pickaxes and larger backpacks purchased with earnings from selling ore. After each shift, a blast resets the caves for the next round while players return to the Mine Station with their haul.
Beyond mining, players can smelt ingots, craft items such as roof tiles or planks at personal workstations that continue operating offline, and follow recipes found in the rock. Leveling from Intern Digger up to Chairman of the Boulder unlocks new tools, blocks, and access to deeper mines like Greystone Deep and the Crystal Caverns. Building occurs on personal plots where homes are constructed block by block using materials like plaster, timber, and stone, with options for stairs, slopes, and furnishings. Progress and plots carry over into friends' sessions.
Game Modes
The game supports online co-op for up to 16 players, allowing public lobbies or private friend groups. Solo play is fully available at any time without requiring others. Fast travel connects discovered locations, and players can switch between first and third person views using mouse and keyboard or controller support.
No competitive or versus modes exist. All activity focuses on shared excavation, crafting, and building in a non-hostile environment free of combat or permadeath.
Cosmetic Customization
Ore Heads - Animal Onesies adds nine purely visual outfits for the Square Head character. These full-piece onesies include the Frog Onesie with green coloring and top eyes, the Pink Frog Onesie, the Bear Onesie with round ears and tail, the Bunny Onesie featuring long ears and a cotton tail, the Fox Onesie with black socks and white tip, the striped Cat Onesie with whiskers and tail, the black-and-white Panda Onesie, the Duck Onesie with bill and orange feet, and the Dino Onesie with orange spikes. Hoods stay up with ears and tails attached.
The outfits appear on the player's character during mining, town visits, and plot work. Crew members see the onesies in co-op sessions regardless of ownership. They remain available across all saves and in any friend's game but do not alter digging speed or mechanics.
Is It Worth Playing?
Ore Heads targets players seeking a low-pressure mining experience with friends or alone. The voxel cave exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and plot building create a steady progression loop without time pressure or failure states. Co-op up to 16 players adds social digging sessions while solo remains viable. The Animal Onesies pack provides lighthearted visual variety that shows in group play.
As an unreleased title with no player reviews or completed updates available, suitability depends on interest in cozy simulation mechanics focused on excavation and construction. Those who enjoy similar voxel-based gathering and building games will find familiar systems here, supported by persistent progress and cross-session visibility of cosmetics.
