Train Sim World 5: Special Edition is a train simulation game for Xbox and PC that puts players in charge of authentic rail operations on multiple routes spanning the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany. The package bundles the three core routes introduced with the base release along with a selection of compatible add-on content and specific locomotives, allowing extended sessions that cross between locations on foot.
Gameplay
The core experience centers on realistic train handling across commuter, regional, and freight services. Players manage acceleration, braking, and signaling while following timetables or tackling dedicated duties. Controls range from simplified beginner options to full expert setups that require precise operation of switches, displays, and safety systems. Suspension modeling and camera motion add physical feedback during travel over track joints and curves.
New systems expand options beyond driving. The upgraded live map provides real-time details on signals, services, and locations, while fast travel lets players jump to points within the current route without exiting to the menu. Route hopping enables seamless transitions between compatible routes at shared stations by walking to designated points. Conductor duties appear on select services, shifting focus to passenger management while an AI handles the locomotive.
Weather, time of day, and random events such as signal delays or temporary speed restrictions can be adjusted for variety. Digital displays support enhanced views on compatible trains, and suspension improvements are visible from the cab when motion sway is enabled.
Game Modes
Training Center serves as an upgraded hub with reworked tutorials and additional locomotives for learning fundamentals. Timetable mode delivers scheduled services with options to customize layers and difficulty. Scenarios present specific challenges beyond routine runs, while Journey Mode guides players through a structured driving career.
Free Roam allows spawning any owned train, setting paths, and operating outside the standard timetable. Conductor Mode places players in the guard or conductor role on supported services, handling door operations, ticket checks, and aisle clearance with an AI driver. Creative tools include an upgraded photo mode with live weather and time adjustments, plus livery, formation, and scenario designers accessible through the creator hub.
Routes and Content
The Special Edition includes the West Coast Main Line between London Euston and Milton Keynes, the San Bernardino Line, and the Frankfurt to Fulda route. Additional compatible content covers the London Underground Bakerloo Line, Kassel to Würzburg, Cajon Pass, London Overground Suffragette line, Bremen to Oldenburg, and the Northeast Corridor between New York and Trenton. Featured locomotives include the Avanti Class 390 Pendolino and the FlixTrain BR 193 Vectron.
Performance considerations apply on Xbox One family consoles and Xbox Series S, where timetables and layering adjust to maintain stability. Route hopping works between owned compatible lines at common locations such as San Bernardino or Fulda.
Is It Worth Playing?
Players seeking detailed train simulation with variety across UK, US, and German routes will find the Special Edition provides immediate access to multiple lines and the new conductor role. The addition of route hopping and fast travel supports longer, uninterrupted sessions. Reception on major platforms sits in the mostly positive range, with praise for route quality and the expanded ways to engage with services. Those who enjoy methodical operation, timetable adherence, and occasional shifts to passenger-focused tasks will appreciate the package. Newcomers benefit from the bundled content and training options, while the simulation depth suits dedicated rail enthusiasts. Ongoing patches have addressed stability and features since launch.
